Day 9 - A Day in Bergen
What a special city! We loved Bergen...the famous store fronts and shops, the fish market, and the amazing views! I haven’t mentioned yet that we have had perfect weather for this entire trip, high 70s to mid 80s and NO rain! The locals have told us that we timed the trip perfectly...thank you Mother Nature! Our lunch today was from a Norwegian food truck located near the harbor—Norwegian Stew and Cured Meat Rolls! Our dinner was at the Bergen Fish Market—tents are lined up along the harbor and fresh seafood is cooked and served to order. The highlight of the day was taking the Fløibane to the top of a mountain which overlooks the entire city...absolutely breathtaking views. The city of Bergen will be at the top of our favorite list for a long time!
Day 8-Norway in a Nutshell Tour
Recommended by Rick Steves, Norway in a Nutshell is the most popular tour in the country. It includes train, bus, and ferry transportation that allows you to see small towns, the countryside, and fjords between Oslo and Bergen. The maps below show the 13-hour trek of the tour! Stay tuned for pictures later this evening!
Majestic Views of Norway
Everyone should do this at least once in their lifetime. From train to cruise to bus...every view was truly majestic. We simply couldn’t believe the grand scale of the mountains and fjords. Enjoy the slide show!
Day 7 - A Day in Oslo
We walked five miles around the city today. The perfect morning with blues skies and 80 degree temperatures. Our first stop was the Oslo Opera House—a climb to the top offers amazing views of the city and harbor. Next, we walked through the Akershus Fortress. It was built in the 1290s to protect the city. Then, we took the Bygdøy Ferry Tour across the harbor to the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. The ferry ride was a highlight of the day. The last stop was a visit to the Nobel Peace Center, saluting individuals who make our world a better place and learning about the UN’s 17 Sustainable Develpoment Goals. We ended the day with an early dinner at The Lanternen. Oslo can be described in three words—clean, modern, and pristine.
Day 6 - Oslo, Norway
We flew from Dublin to Oslo today. The high-speed rail took us from the airport to City Center. Norway is another beautiful country...crisp colors and very clean! Looking forward to exploring the city tomorrow!
